The mission of the Four Corner’s Health Department is to promote health, prevent disease, and protect the environment while improving the health of the community.  Mrs. Blanke addressed the history of the office, located in York, Nebraska and shared information on the funding process.

The partnership is between Butler, York, Seward and Polk Counties and was established in 2003.  She defined public health as working with the community to assure healthy schools, healthy children, clean air/water, disease control, safe/healthy communities and disaster readiness.  She noted that because of public health, people in the United States can expect to live 25 years longer than past generations.

She spoke on the various programs introduced by Four Corners Health and expanded on several of the more popular ones.  She shared numerous free materials from the Four Corners’ office on a variety of topics and touch on some popular Apps for the smart phones-such as the FEMA Mobile App.  Mrs. Blanke shared copies of their recent informative community newsletter and spoke on their Veteran Health programs and shared the trap and monitor mosquito population process sponsored by Four Corners Health-guarding against and watching for West Nile Virus.

She also spoke on their Radon screening program and detailed their process for detecting Radon in the homes. Since 2007, Four Corners has distributed 1,800 short term Radon kits to homes in the four county system!
