The Seward Rotary “Service Above Self” award is an annual award to honor a local, Greater Seward area volunteer that has committed a lifetime of “Service” to others-an exceptional volunteer from the community. The membership of the Seward Rotary will select the final nominee from the list of nominations presented and the selected honoree will be recognized at the annual awards night. Last year’s honoree was Clayton Kent, longtime, successful Seward businessman and founder of the Seward Cross Makers. The honoree will be named a “Paul Harris Fellow” and the Seward Rotary Club will donate $1000 to the Rotary Foundation to eliminate Polio worldwide in the honoree’s name. Nominations can be directed to the Rotary Awards Chair, Clark Kolterman at clark.kolterman@sewardschools.org or call 402-641-8522 or 402-643-6138. The Seward Rotary Club is also honoring a local individual with the annual “Wayne Tanderup” award, presenting the award to an honoree for their endurance and evidence to overcoming a hardship in their life. Local Rotarian, the late Wayne Tanderup, exemplified the example of overcoming polio. Tanderup worked hard to overcome any disability and become a successful businessman, father and husband and one of the most generous members of the Seward Rotary Club. He promoted and raised thousands of dollars in the Rotary District for the Polio Plus campaign. Tanderup was presented the award as the first recipient of the honor and it has been awarded annually ever since.
