Seward High Senior, Colton Meyer, was selected and honored as the March Youth Rotarian by the Seward Rotary Club on March 10, 2021.
Seward High Senior, Colton Meyer, was selected and honored as the March Youth Rotarian by the Seward Rotary Club. He is the son of Rev. Mike and Stacey Meyer. He was introduced by Rotarian Dr. Matt Dominy and presented with a Seward Rotary Club banner and club printed information and mementos.
Colton is very proud of his perfect attendance at Seward High School, having perfect attendance for 12 of the last 14 quarters to date. He has enjoyed a variety of Advanced Placement Classes (AP) for college credit while in high school and is Microsoft and Excel Certified.
Colten’s extracurricular activities center on his passion-baseball. He has been a member of the SHS Baseball program since 2017 and lettered the last two years. He has made one state appearance with the SHS Baseball program. In the summer he also enjoys the Legion Baseball program since 2016, also with one State Legion Tourney appearance. He also plays with the Fall Baseball program of the University of Nebraska Fall League-beginning in 2015 to date. He enjoyed playing SHS Basketball as a freshman and now is a “pillar” in the Student Section-supporting the SHS Bluejays!
He is a member of the Seward Rock Lutheran Church and a voice of youth for the congregation, often volunteering to assist with many programs in the church. He is an active member of their Rock Lutheran Church Godparent-youth led program.
Colton has been employed for many years of his high school career in the summer months-employed by Pioneer for roguing, Syngenta for field work and their family farm in Wisner as a farm hand during the summer months.
His “Service Above Self” volunteer efforts really involve many of the Seward Rotary Club efforts of service, as he is a longtime helper the day of distribution with our local “Stuff the Cruiser” project and is a loyal volunteer with the Seward Rotarians in working the Seward Recycling Center, as well as helping coach for many young baseball programs throughout the area, and help with various baseball camps for youth.
His future plans for college are undecided, however he may attend University of Nebraska at Kearney with an undecided major. He really wants to play baseball at the college level, so he has not committed to a school to date.
Colton is now a finalist for the Seward Youth Rotarian of the Year Scholarship and will receive a Rotary Club Book Scholarship. The Seward Rotary honors one Seward High student monthly and applications are found on line or in the SHS Counselor’s office.
