Seward, Nebraska Rotarians and international volunteers, Jon and Bonnie Kruse are working on a special matching grant through Rotary International to assist in the devastation created by recent Hurricane Dorian.  Funds are being generated to be matched by the Rotary International’s “Rand Memorial Hospital Initiative.”

The Global Grant is for the purchase of new beds for the Rand Memorial Hospital on Grand Bahama.  Hurricane Dorian has created much devastation on Grand Bahama. The hospital was flooded and new beds are needed more than ever.  The Rotary Club Lucaya Grand Bahama identified the need and asked the Seward Rotary Club Nebraska to partner with them- as the Kruses attend the Bahama Rotary Club Lucaya when vacationing in the Grand Bahamas.  Ed Walsh, District 5650 Global Grants Chairman, informed Jon and Bonnie Kruse to proceed with the fundraising and application process.

Jon and Bonnie are currently attending all Rotary Club Lucaya meetings.  The club meets every Tuesday at 12:00 noon.    On January 14th, the Rotary Club welcomed Jon and Bonnie thanking them and the Seward Rotary Club with great applause and deep appreciation for the contribution the hospital beds will make for the people on Grand Bahama!  The members of the Rotary Club Lucaya are looking forward to getting to know the members of the Seward Rotary Club.

The Seward Rotary Club is hosting a special community “Service Above Self” dinner on May 16th in Seward to raise funds for the “Rand Memorial Hospital Initiative” at the Seward County Ag Pavilion, with a dinner, silent auction, live auction and celebrity speaker.

At the Rotary Lucaya meeting in the Grand Bahama’s member Rotarian Billy Jane Ferguson was presented with a Seward Crossmaker’s Palm Cross-given to her by Jon and Bonnie Kruse of Seward Rotary-as a memento from Seward. Last year, the Kruseshad given her a Seward Crossmaker’s Palm cross and it was lost when the Hurricane Dorian totally destroyed her home. This new Seward cross replaces the one Billy lost in the storm. At the presentation, Billy thanked the Kruses and hugged Jon and Bonnie as tears came to her eyes.
