SHS Sophomore, Alivia Hartmann was selected the annual HOBY (Hugh O’Brien Youth Leader) through an application and interview process on Wednesday, October 29th at the Seward High School Library/Media Center.  She is the daughter of Christina Minarik and Zac Hartmann.  First Runner-up/First Alternate was Keegan Beisel.

SHS Sophomore, Alivia Hartmann was selected the annual HOBY (Hugh O’Brien Youth Leader) through an application and interview process on Wednesday, October 29th at the Seward High School Library/Media Center.  She is the daughter of Christina Minarik and Zac Hartmann.  First Runner-up/First Alternate was Keegan Beisel.

The HOBY Program is a national youth leadership development program for high school sophomores, who then return to their respective schools and use the skills from the seminar and develop other leaders in the school at the same time. It is endorsed nationally by the General Federation of Women’s Clubs-GFWC, Rotary International, Kiwanis International and Optimist International.

Alivia is in the SHS Marching Band, Soccer, the Bluejay Leadership Team, and the SHS Yearbook and Multimedia programs, Key Club, Skills USA and is an SHS Ambassador.  She is employed at Pac and Save.  

She participated in the Sportsmanship Conference, Underclassman Honor Band, Concordia University Honor Band and the Doane Community Band Invitation.

She will attend the Nebraska HOBY Leadership Program in June, 2020, representing SHS.

She was selected by a panel of judges, based on her interview and application.  The judges were Jon and Bonnie Kruse, Dr. Louis Rieth, and Roger Glawatz.  The program is sponsored by the School District of Seward, Seward Rotary Club, The GFWC Seward Woman’s Club, GFWC Seward Junior Women’s Club and Seward Kiwanis and Seward Optimists.  Clark Kolterman served as the host for the students and coordinated the interviews with the SHS Counselors Noelle Baker and Kevin Fields.

Student finalists included Alivia Hartmann, Keegan Beisel, Andrew Marshall, Jeanna Snyder, Ian Fiala, Jack Wall, Kimahari “Mahri” Vega-Nipp, Ethan Wilkinson, Lucas Briggs and Logan Seilhan.  Each student prepared an application and was interviewed by the panel of community leader volunteers.
