Seward, Nebraska Rotarians and international volunteers, Jon and Bonnie Kruse are working on a special matching grant through Rotary International to assist in the devastation created by recent Hurricane Dorian. Funds are being generated to be match by the “Rand Memorial Hospital Initiative.”
Elise Johnson, a Seward High Senior, was selected the January Youth Rotarian of the Month and recognized and honored at the recent Seward Rotary Club noon luncheon meeting on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at the Jones Bank & Trust Auditorium. Elise Johnson is the daughter of Jill and Brady Johnson of Seward. She was introduced by Rotarian Dr. Matt Dominy of the Seward Rotary Youth Rotarian Committee and she was presented a Rotary Club banner and information on Rotary and Rotary International.
A new winter tradition is happening on a school winter break day, Monday February 17, at 1:00 pm with doors opening earlier, as the Seward Rotary will be hosting a FREE movie at the historic Rivoli Theater in Seward to help kick-off the Centennial of the Seward Rivoli Theater-1920-2020 years of service to the greater Seward area. It is also a great way for families to fight the “Winter Blahs” together. The seating is limited on a first come, first serve basis. Families are encouraged to attend together. The title of the movie will be announced as soon as it is available.
The Seward Rotary Club program for the their December 11, 2019 meeting featuring a Christmas Concert by the Seward Middle School Select Choir of both Seventh and Eighth Graders under the direction Ms. Jill Bisbee, accompanied by Mrs. Pam Mcconnell and assisted by technology director Nathan Buss. The special program was given to honor the area Pastors of Greater Seward, as the Rotary meeting was officially “Pastor’s Day” and special guests were the Pastors of Greater Seward.

Hannah Kinzelberger, of Oberwaltersdorf, Austria is the only international student attending Seward High School, in Seward, Nebraska this year and was welcomed back to Seward Rotary Club meeting. The members of the Seward Rotary Club recognized Hannah with special Christmas gifts from Seward and Nebraska at their recent meeting on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at the Jones Bank & Trust. She attended the luncheon, club meeting and program featuring the SMS Select Choir performing a Christmas concert. Other special guests were the area Pastors of Seward.
The Seward Rotary Club annually presents two special awards every spring to honor the motto of Rotary International –with the “Service Above Self” award and long time, local Rotarian –the late Wayne Tanderup with the “Wayne Tanderup Award” at their annual spring “Service Above Self” banquet on Saturday, May 16th at the Seward Ag Pavilion.
Billed as a true community effort, the annual “Stuff the Cruiser” toy collection campaign and distribution of Christmas gifts to area children was again labeled a success by the event sponsors; the Seward Rotary Club and City of Seward Police Department. The collected toys were distributed in a celebration including individual shopping opportunities by the children’s guardians and parents at the Civic Center on Saturday, December 14th, hosted by the Seward Rotary Club and Seward Police Department. Almost 100 area children were presented gifts and toys through this holiday program.
The annual Seward Rotary Club’s Breakfast with Santa was a success, with almost 50 children in attendance for the holiday festivities at the Seward Civic Center on Saturday, December 14 th , 2019. The Seward Rotary Club hosted the area residents with a breakfast of donuts, fruit, candy, juice and milk. They were assisted by members of the Seward High Family Community Career Leaders of America (FCCLA).
