The February Youth Rotarian of the Month is Ben Myers, a senior at Seward High School and he was honored on Wednesday, February 5 at noon at the Jones Bank auditorium at the Rotary weekly luncheon meeting. He is the son of Nate and Heather Myers of Seward.
The leadership of the LoneCreek Cattle Company were the featured program at the weekly Seward Rotary Club meeting on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at noon at the Jones Bank Auditorium. Fellowship, a luncheon, brief business meeting preceded the program, introduced by Rotarian of the Month, Andy Hartmann. He introduced Thad Robertson, Cattle Procurement and Ben Mohl-Manager both of The LoneCreek Cattle Company. Both representatives presented and shared information and facts on the LoneCreek Cattle Company and Piedmontese Certified Beef, using a power point presentation.
Seward High graduate of 1999, Justin Pekarek, now of rural Garland, was the featured speaker at the recent Seward Rotary Club’s weekly meeting, held on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at noon at the Jones Bank Auditorium in Seward. The meeting featured fellowship, a luncheon, short business meeting and the luncheon program, introduced by Rotarian of the Month-Andy Hartmann. Justin is a former Business Administration graduate of the University of Nebraska, playing baseball for UNL for five years and then was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 8 th round. He is currently serving as a Senior Marketing Representative for Federated Insurance. He is married to wife Megan and has three children. Justin spoke on his transition from baseball to the business world, tracing his career with Federated Insurance and his success and promotions with the company. He started with Federated Insurance in Donophin, Nebraska was transferred many times, each time a promotion and added responsibilities. He has traveled the world, as a result of Federated Insurance and grateful for the opportunity to work for a very successful company.
A new winter tradition is happening on a school winter break day, Monday February 17, at 1:00 pm with doors opening earlier, as the Seward Rotary will be hosting a FREE movie at the historic Rivoli Theater in Seward to help kick-off the Centennial of the Seward Rivoli Theater-1920-2020 years of service to the greater Seward area. It is also a great way for families to fight the “Winter Blahs” together. The seating is limited on a first come, first serve basis. Families are encouraged to attend together. The title of the movie will be announced as soon as it is available.
The Seward Rotary Club annually presents two special awards every spring to honor the motto of Rotary International –with the “Service Above Self” award and long time, local Rotarian –the late Wayne Tanderup with the “Wayne Tanderup Award” at their annual spring “Service Above Self” banquet on Saturday, May 16th at the Seward Ag Pavilion.
